3D-Print-2-Fiber - combining 3D printing and carbon fibre
3D-Print-2-Fiber is a government funded research project with Mecuris in cooperation with four additional companies A+ composites, M&A Dieterle, the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich and the Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe of the Technical University Kaiserslautern.
The project involves the development of ankle foot orthotics using 3D scanning and 3D printing technologies. This project aims to revolutionise traditional ankle foot orthotic (AFO) manufacturing processes through creating a digital workflow using CAD\CAM methods. Utilising Finite Element simulation and combining the versatility of 3D printing with the superior material properties of carbon fibre, this project aims to create products which will improve the lives of AFO wearers through creating robust lightweight orthotics shaped to perfectly fit to a wearers anatomy.
